Wartime Family Life
Barely fifteen years after the clashes of 1759 and 1760 at the end of which New France was ceded to the British Empire, American rebels besieged and attacked Quebec City in 1775 and 1776.
In the second half of the 18th century, Canadian families were deeply affected by the war. While many men joined the militia, women shouldered responsibilities of their household alone and children grew up surrounded by uncertainty.
2026 Program
Meet and chat with historical figures to learn about our ancestors' challenges and sacrifices, visit military encampments, watch rifle and cannon demonstrations, and enter in a Martello tower. Learn about alliances with First Nations and the reality of how Indigenous families lived during war.
Programming runs continuously throughout the day, on Saturday (11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

- The activity is accessible to individuals with reduced mobility (except for access to Martello Tower 1). However, you can take a virtual tour of the Martello Tower 1.
