Remains of the Blockhouse

In the 18th century, Québec fortified itself against American invasion with a temporary citadel (1779-1783) and an advanced blockhouse (1782).

Artefacts

The artefacts found testify to the daily activities of its occupants, including food preservation, preparation and consumption, which played an important role: cooking pots, tableware in porcelain and fine terracotta, wine glasses and utensils, etc.

Surprisingly few items of weaponry were found on the blockhouse site, including a triangular bayonet, a cannonball and rifle bullets.

However, several components of military uniform were found. These included shako plates and ornaments, chin strap tassels, a belt buckle and numerous buttons.
