Delve into the heart of the attempted American invasion of Quebec in 1775

Quebec City, June 6, 2024 – The Plains of Abraham Museum is proud to unveil its brand new exhibition Québec 1775: Blizzards and Battle. Blending art and history, this exhibition will present six works of art tailored to tell the story of the little-known American attempt to invade Quebec City in the winter of 1775. This captivating and surprising tale can be discovered from June 7, 2024 to January 11, 2026.

Following the success of the Aeria exhibition, winner of the Prix Excellence from the Société des musées du Québec, the Plains of Abraham Museum is back with a new and innovative temporary exhibition. Key scenes from the attempted invasion of 1775 will be interpreted with sensitivity and creativity by artists Carole Baillargeon, Monica Brinkman, Olivier Roberge, Adeline Benhamouda, Aline Martineau, and Jocelyn Langlois. Their works will be accompanied by a soundtrack composed by Josué Beaucage as well as historical representations by artist Andréa Bourget Méndez.

The Director of Museum Services, Stéphane Roy, explains:

The winter siege of 1775 was unique in America for its era: unique because of the weather conditions surrounding it, because of what was at stake, and because of the ambivalent political stance of the French Canadians. With six works offering their own interpretations of four key moments in the invasion, we hope to shed light on this important but little-known moment in history.

Through the rich narrative of a woman known by the nickname Baboche, who acted as informant for the British during the siege, and artworks supported by digital media, visitors will relive the torments, dilemmas, and exploits of ordinary people plunged into an extraordinary situation.
