The family in the Quebec region at the time of the capture of Quebec

During the War of the Conquest (1754-1760), Canadian families made many sacrifices. Many men went to war by joining the militia, women often had to take care of the logistics of the house on a daily basis, and children grew up in their completely turned upside down.

In this lecture, Luc Nicole-Labrie, Senior History Advisor at the National Battlefields Commission, proposes to explore the profound disruptions that the war in the 18th century imposed on families in the greater Quebec City region. Between the evacuation of the city, the temporary migrations out of the villages, the deprivations and rationing linked to the war effort, how did families get through the end of the French regime and the beginnings of the British regime?

An enlightening lecture on a less often discussed aspect of the period of the battles of the Plains of Abraham (September 13, 1759) and Sainte-Foy (April 28, 1760).

Biography

Luc Nicole-Labrie

Senior History Advisor at the National Battlefields Commission, Luc Nicole-Labrie has an academic background in history, tourism, and culture. He has contributed to numerous educational activities, exhibitions, conferences, and guided tours on the events surrounding the Battles of the Plains of Abraham and Sainte-Foy, as well as the history of the site.
