The story behind the true nature of the Plains
The natural landscape and territory of the Plains of Abraham are the result of hundreds, even thousands, of years of evolution, human presence, encounters, and exchanges.
In this lecture, historian Luc Nicole-Labrie provides an overview of these transformations, from the pre-colonial period to the present day, highlighting the vision of Frederick G. Todd, the landscape architect behind the park’s original design when it was established in 1908.
Explore the evolution of the Plains of Abraham, from their natural origins to their transformation into one of the country’s great historic urban parks. This lecture traces the territory’s many purposes over time, the buildings erected there, changes to its flora and fauna, and the many uses of the Heights of Québec before the creation of Battlefields Park as we know it today.

Luc Nicole-Labrie
A historian and historical mediation coordinator for the National Battlefields Commission since 2007, Luc Nicole-Labrie has an academic background in history, tourism, and culture. He has contributed to numerous educational activities, exhibitions, conferences, and guided tours on the events surrounding the Battles of the Plains of Abraham and Sainte-Foy, as well as the history of the site.
