Published on May 28, 2025

June is the perfect time to head outside, get moving and soak up the warm summer sun. On the Plains of Abraham, it is also a chance to take on fun challenges with family or friends, admire the garden, sip a lemonade or iced coffee, and enjoy free outdoor musical performances.

Here are a few activity and outing suggestions to experience and explore on the Plains this summer.

1. Set off on a treasure hunt with The Landscape Architect and the Hidden Treasure

Calling all young adventurers! Get ready for a treasure hunt on the Plains of Abraham! Using a map and clues left behind by landscape architect Frederick G. Todd, explore some of the park’s lesser-known corners. It is a fun way to discover the area’s wildlife, plant life and rich history, on the very ground where the French and the British fought in the famous 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham.

The Landscape Architect and the Hidden Treasure is an engaging, family-friendly activity ideal for children ages 5 to 10. The hunt includes all necessary materials, plus a few little surprises along the way.

2. Push your limits with the outdoor escape game The Forgotten Ones of the Battle

In this group challenge, you will explore the Plains of Abraham while carrying a locked briefcase on a mysterious wheelbarrow. The escape game The Forgotten Ones of the Battle tells the story of five people who lived through the Battle of 1759 on the Plains. By solving riddles, you will discover the fates of those who vanished. Time: max. 105 minutes (1 hr 45 min).

Perfect for teens, young adults or even work teams, this immersive challenge blends logic, creativity and keen observation.

3. Unlock the past with the Challenge of the Great Wars

History buffs, take note and put the Challenge of the Great Wars, this outdoor escape game, on your summer to-do list! With a military backpack slung over your shoulders, you’ll go on an immersive journey showing how the two world wars shaped the Plains of Abraham.

Following the footsteps of soldier, poet and chaplain Frederick George Scott, you will need to unlock the backpack’s contents and solve a series of riddles to uncover the mystery of the legendary white stone.

A fascinating outdoor activity for curious minds of all ages!

4. Admire the tulips at Joan of Arc Garden

Starting in mid-May, and for just a few short weeks, the Joan of Arc Garden bursts into colour with a stunning display of tulips that’s an irresistible treat for the eyes and the camera lens.

This enchanting spot is equal parts peaceful retreat and source of inspiration. Interpretation panels and the striking statue at the centre offer insight into the story behind this floral gem, where French formal design meets the charm of English cottage garden–style mixed beds. More than 150 species of annuals, bulbs and perennials bloom here throughout the season.

5. Catch free concerts at the Edwin-Bélanger Bandstand

A natural amphitheatre and one of the best-kept secrets on the Plains of Abraham, the Edwin-Bélanger Bandstand comes alive each week with a vibrant lineup of free musical performances, including special family activities.

Every Thursday and Saturday, from June 19 to August 23 (excluding during the Festival d’Été de Québec), the stage will welcome around 20 shows featuring a mix of country, pop, rock, folk, jazz and blues. Artists like Christian Marc Gendron and Manon Séguin, Andréanne A. Malette, Guylaine Tanguay, Yvan Pedneault, Génération Crooners, Coco Country Band, Gabrielle Destroismaisons, and Patrick Norman with Nathalie Lord will all take the stage. Do not miss the powerful fusion of Western and traditional Indigenous music in a special performance by Kawandak.

In addition to the musical performances, a series of four family-friendly morning shows will take place on Saturdays, July 19 and 26, as well as August 9 and 16, starting at 11 a.m.

Craving a latte, an iced coffee or some homemade lemonade? Make your way to Café La Maison Smith, just steps from the Edwin-Bélanger Bandstand. Its terrace overlooks the natural beauty of the parc and the iconic Centennial Fountain
